Leafy residential areas outside towns and cities are in line for membership of the European Union, according to a deliberate malapropism this week.
The feeble wordplay – understood to have been introduced for comic effect – sees Suburbia in line for the benefits of being in the EU club.
Suburbia joins Torquay, a Crow-Hater, a Boar’s Knee and Eva Herzigova, and Monty’s Austin Allegro on a list of ever weaker efforts to find words that sound a bit like EU candidate countries.
