It’s a difficult message to flog, but by God has the commission flogged it.
And it’s an easy message to vilify.
So BM has obediently done so.
The commission has the advantage, being an unelected body, of not having to pander to public perceptions of what may or may not be the right thing to do.
So if the public thinks it may ring false to preach austerity while demanding more money, it must forgive the unwashed for not quite grasping the finer points of commitments versus appropriations, the financial framework programmes, or Keynsian thought as applied at the EU level.
Sometimes the right thing to do, isn’t the right thing to do.
